About Us

As an extension of The Hidden Dog House, how did we all come together to work on this project? Initially, we had five existing members who had also participated in previous Cyberfair events and were members of our club, The Hidden Dog House. While the initial five of us were engaged in researching and addressing the issue of stray dogs, we recognized a larger concern—animal extinction, which has become increasingly severe in recent times. We were acutely aware that a team of just five people would not suffice to deliver a comprehensive and well-informed project since we aimed to provide accurate information and raise awareness effectively. Therefore, we reached out to individuals in our network, sharing our chosen topic for this year, and gauging their passion and concern for animal extinction. Ultimately, we selected three new members to join us. Each member in our group possesses intelligence and valuable capabilities, as we carefully considered their strengths. With a total of eight dedicated members, we collectively invested significant effort into our cause.

Hi there, this is YI-TI, CHANG. With an enthusiasm for environmental issues, especially the ones regarding animals, I have a desire to raise awareness among people around the world. In order to reach this goal, I found out that doing deep research, in-depth discussions, interviewing professionals, and organizing their recommendations are essential. Moreover, with last year's experience and to extend further on that, I considered animal extinction and endangered species significant issues and wanted to explore more about them. So, again this year, participating as a leader and my fourth year involved in the International CyberFair, I gathered people who are also passionate about these issues to work together, sharing our thoughts, research results, etc. Throughout the process, while doing duties as a leader, including maintaining our schedule, distributing each person’s responsibilities, and organizing the final work, at the same time, I made up the website for the exhibition of our final project. In addition, targeting the goals of spreading awareness regarding animal extinction and also the competition, International CyberFair, we tried our best to optimize and embellish our website. Lastly, to emphasize, I again participated in CyberFair to show my work regarding environmental protection and environmental awareness.

Hello, I am Julie Hsu. I am the vice president and creative designer at Hidden Dog House. Drawing is one of my favorite things to do, so I am also the artistic designer of the website. Through the comic that I published, I hope to deliver a message to society that there are still noticeable issues that exist, which are bringing negative effects to the neighborhood. Not just the environment that makes it difficult for those stray dogs to survive, but the carelessness and stone-heartedness of their owners who abandon them are creating a non-erasable scar for them. By creating this club, I hope that together we can create a better place where animals and humans can have an ample place to live. I always think that I am the kind of person who lacks caring in my society. However, thanks to the club, I finally learned the problems of wild animal extinction are extremely severe in the environment that we live in. Even though there are more and more regulations that protect the rights of these stray dogs, these laws still cannot perfectly protect endangered animals. I hope by attending the competition, we can arouse consensus among people about this serious problem of endangered animals.

Hi there! I am Camille. Something about myself first, I am a person who loves traveling and graphic design. Traveling to different countries broadens my horizons while graphic design allows me to explore all kinds of unique combinations when elements meet. Last year, I joined the club and took part in the Cyberfair project for the first time. We focused on the topic of stray dogs and discussed different issues like animal experiments, sterilization, and so on. While having the opportunity to learn a lot of knowledge from the last project, our team decided to continue to expand our research to endangered animals. You must have heard of Formosan black bears, the V-shaped white mark on their chests is their signature. The number of it had been decreasing significantly because of habitat degradation, and had been listed as “endangered”. I believe many of us were taught about this information when we were much younger, but is there any way we can make a difference instead of just knowing the facts? I am glad to say that quite a few people started paying attention to the issue of endangered animals, and we truly hope to spread our ideas about those animals to more people through this Cyberfair project and make an influence. Hope you like our project!

Hi everyone, I'm Melanie. The issue of endangered species continues to persist worldwide. The Formosan black bear, distinguished by a distinct V-shaped whitish mark on its chest, holds significant cultural value as an indigenous animal in Taiwan. However, relentless exploitation and habitat degradation over the past few decades have led to its classification as an endangered species. Consequently, the bear was chosen as the mascot of the 2017 Universiade by the deputy mayor of Taipei, aiming to raise awareness about the critical importance of protecting this endangered species, whose population has dwindled to a mere 200 to 600 individuals. Throughout my years in elementary school, we were educated about the plight of endangered animals. As I grow older, I increasingly recognize the significance of addressing these issues and have started contemplating what I, as a student, can do. Consequently, I have joined this project to collaborate with my awesome partners, taking action and striving to make a positive impact. Therefore, I hold the position of Minister of Secretary and Administration. In my day-to-day life, I naturally assume the role of the "mom" figure among those around me, as I excel at organizing and taking care of others. In this project, my goal is to utilize my strengths and expertise to successfully complete the project and create a positive impact in the world.

Personally, life isn’t about finding myself. Life is about creating myself. Making myself a person who is influential. With my interest, I wish I could be influential in fields like forensic psychology, a field that particularly fascinated me. That being said, I like to study experimental psychology to understand humans’ subconscious mind since it is reported to take over 90% of our decision-making, yet we are not necessarily aware of it. Before I relate this to our team, let me put the aforementioned into context. For example, could we blame ISIS child soldiers for committing crimes, after all they have been taught is distorted? No, because if they never had the chance to gain the correct access to the appropriate information, then aren’t we making them take the blame that they don’t deserve to take? The same idea applies to our team goal, which is to construct a solution to animal extinction issues. Humans have created a rate of extinction of species that is far above natural levels. To effectively resolve this issue, it is crucial for us to understand the necessity of a long-term plan. With the aforementioned idea, that will be to establish a correct value on areas that lack access to information, causing them not yet aware of the harmful consequences they have contributed to. In simpler words, it solves the problem from its very root. All in all, this project is not about finding opportunities. This is about creating them. And I’m honored to be part of it.

Greetings, I am Li-Chen Liu, an exuberant thinker, and doer with a strong love for our motherland. Since my elementary school days, I've been an enthusiastic biology fan and researcher. I have witnessed, as a juvenile living in the 21st century, various species that have lost their habitat and homeland in my country. The Earth has become a desolate place. There are deers forced to migrate to higher elevations, there are bears shot and hunted, we see fishermen catching tiny baby fish, and there are trees ripped down and burned into ashes that have lived for thousands and thousands of years. As ineffable as it is, that feeling restrains me from ignoring the problem. For the second time, I will be playing the role of public relations and editor in order to raise public awareness and seek collaboration. I am committed to conducting research, writing articles, and collaborating with organizations that share our vision. Additionally, I was responsible for gathering information and organizing it into articles that appeared on the website last year as well as a researcher and editor. My work is evidently devoted to research, and I hope that people can see what we want to say through my work.

Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you’ll get. This is a quote from the movie Forrest Gump, and I couldn’t agree more. A year ago, I would never have anticipated myself being involved in so much environmental and education volunteering. At first, I got involved in volunteering just because I needed it, but as I devoted more and more time to it, I realized that this is something I want to persist in. As the government demands students to volunteer for a certain amount of time, more and more people start to volunteer. Among these people, there are many who have great ideas and leadership. They start their own team and try to make a difference in this community. Only by volunteering can I get to know these people, and as time went by, I slowly got influenced by their passion, and I hope one day I can become one of them. Animal welfare has always been a problem in many parts of the world, and it is closely associated with environmental problems. As the chief editor of the team, I hope with my knowledge regarding the environment, we can educate people about those endangered animals. This time, with my excellent partners, I can make a change.

Hi, this is Ella Lin, an 11 grader who personally finds myself drawn to these two subjects. Both of them make me feel like I know more about the world, the earth, to be more specific, the one and only place humans belong. You might be questioning the relevance of these two subjects and this Cyberfair project by now. But to understand the ecological systems of endangered animals actually requires many biological and chemical backgrounds. Moreover, as an 11 grader with a passion for animals. I’m more than happy to join this team. I still remember when I was little, I threw myself to the floor and cried only because I wanted a dog as a pet. The dog was named Nicole. We had a great time together, but she sadly passed away two years ago. My love for dogs isn’t just for Nicole, in fact, it is much more than that. I initiated a funding campaign for dogs when I was in grade 9, and I went to volunteer for stray dogs. My role in the team is to promote educational programs to children and let them have a better understanding of the environment and endangered species. Although this is my first time participating in Cyberfair, I will try my best to use my knowledge and skills to make this team better.
