Address SDGs 13:

Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Climate change is a very widely discussed topic in this world. It is real and threatening, and the effects of it have already taken part in all human lives. Some seem to be harmless, but most of them are described as “catastrophic.” As the United Nations focuses on different issues within different committees and forums, SDG 13 specifically reminded the world about the strong demand for urgent action to combat climate change and its existing impacts.

To start with, there are five parts of targeting regarding the United Nations 13th goal, including

  1. strengthening resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related disasters
  2. integrating climate change measures into policies and planning
  3. building knowledge and capacity to meet climate change
  4. implementing the UN Framework Convention on climate change
  5. promoting mechanisms to raise capacity for planning and management

In short, these five aspects covered environmental concerns, legislative enforcement, public awareness, international efforts, and careful planning while emphasizing gender mainstreaming in specifically target 13.5.

Within such scope, the United Nations had provided the general crowd with a very comprehensive standard of how to combat such issues on a “daily basis,” including

  1. donating charity within the SDG13 scope of mandate
  2. Recycling paper, glass, plastic, metal and old electronics
  3. Composting food scraps
  4. Choosing reusable and eco-friendly products
  5. Avoiding transportation methods that produce relatively more carbon footprint
  6. Consuming less meat

These changes are beyond little yet most of the crowd failed to do so. The reason is generally assumed by the fact that people can not see the large influence they can impose by making small yet meaningful changes to their lives. Thus, in this introduction of SDG13, our group considered it essential to address more issues within this scope, including

  1. Current progress on this goal is falling short to meet the targets of the global agenda by 2030
  2. Rising sea level
  3. Extreme weather conditions
  4. Increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases

In conclusion, the United Nations had divided this topic into five related sub-topics and made a significant effort into each of them. The world shall note the UN’s effort with appreciation and affirm the actions that are recommended, as well as acknowledge that further policies, plans, and innovative ideas are extremely significant right now and shall all be valued while bearing in mind the other United Nations’ goals.
